124 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - Thursday

Another death due to coronavirus was announced today by the Ministry of Health, while another 124 new cases were identified.

Specifically:

  • One person died of COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 545.
  • 97 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 41 are in serious condition. 75% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 11 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
  • A total of 51,255 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 124 (positivity rate: 0.24%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 118,570.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

  • A woman, aged 92, who ended up today at the Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 545, of which:

  • 348 men (64%), and
  • 197 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 97 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 41 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 41 patients who are in serious condition, 18 are intubated in an Intensive Care Unit and 23 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 51,255 diagnoses made, 2,521 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 48,734 by the antigen rapid test, 124 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

• 16 cases from 314 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.

• 34 cases from 1,953 samples taken through a private initiative.

• 1 case from 159 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.

• 55 cases from 28,878 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.

• 18 cases from 19,856 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's program.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

• 91 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.

• 4 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.
