Fire in dry grasses, wild vegetation and number of trees in a difficult area of Tala in the area of Zelemenos in Paphos broke out around 4.40am and was brought under full control around 8.30am.
It burned a total area of about 3 hectares. Firefighting forces remain at the site of the fire for final extinguishment and complete demarcation of the fire as well as to deal with any re-ignition.
As stated by the spokesman of the Fire Department, Andreas Kettis, ground forces responded from Fire Stations of Paphos Province, Police, Department of Forests, Fund of Thira, Provincial Administration of Paphos, land pusher and agricultural tractor for demarcation and creation of access to ground forces.
The two leased firefighting helicopters also contributed to the extinguishment of the fire. The cause is believed to be arson.
