KATO PAPHOS PORT - MAPPING TO AVOID MISUNDERSTANDINGS

Filenews 26 August 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

The mapping of the sea area in the port of Kato Pafos is now seriously studied by various state departments and by the municipal authority as a process that will allow the smoother operation of the area and especially the unhindered planning of projects promoted by both the Municipality and the Ports Authority or the Department of Antiquities in the area.

Exclusive information of "F" indicates that at the level of these authorities, the issue has been discussed, without a decision being taken so far, as to whether the matter will officially proceed to the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works, which has the final say. A competent source who confirmed our information, remarked that it is time for any discussion about the port of Kato Pafos to take place on the basis of specific and acceptable data, since the archaeological importance of the area, both underwater and in the wider area despite the port, poses de facto practical problems to any requests for changes.

"No one disputes the existence of important antiquities in the harbour, both on land and in its underwater space," the source pointed out, "but we want to stop a practice on the part of some that has become a regime just to avoid any negotiation.

Everyone must now support their positions on the existence of antiquities or other evidence on the basis of written evidence. And such, it is only a mapped document about what is and where in the port basin of Kato Pafos".
