UPDATE 27/8 - An all-night battle with the flames was fought by the Fire Brigade after a fire broke out on Thursday afternoon at a factory with recyclable materials [old vehicles and tyres mainly] in the industrial area of Yeri.
In fact, according to the spokesman of the Fire Brigade, Andreas Kettis, a member of the fire brigade, during his effort to extinguish the fire, was injured and was transported to the hospital.
Citizens are requested not to take any recycling materials to the industrial area for the time being. The civil defence meanwhile advised local residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary movements outside, due to the intense smell and the smoke. The fire has been contained, but not fully put out, and came within 500m of residential properties.
