An annual Paphos event to raise funds for breast cancer patients will take place at the beginning of October, breast cancer awareness month.
“Sole Sisters, which is the women’s section of the Paphos Running Club will raise funds for the Breast of Friends, a breast cancer support group, the Cancer patients support group Paphos and the Friends hospice. We are hoping to raise at least €5,000,” president of the Paphos running club, Sue Cordrey said of the October 9 event.
In the three years since its inception, the event has raised €14,000 to support breast cancer patients.
“We are inviting everyone to join in and either run or walk the 5k from Paphos Harbour (near the Castle) to the Elysium Hotel and back and this really is a needy cause. Last year was difficult due to the pandemic and this year, obviously all of the government guidelines will be followed and we are hoping that more people will join in,” Maxine O’Daly, of Breast of Friends added.
The Breast of Friends support group was started six years ago to support breast cancer patients from discovery to recovery.
“After a breast cancer diagnosis, there are so many questions that you need answers to. Women can contact us and we can help. All of the members have had or have breast cancer and it is important for people to know that they are not alone,” she said.
Registration for the event is available now online (pafoslady@gmail.com) or on the day at 3pm. Participants are requested to wear something pink.
Admission is €5 for adults, €2 for 10 to 16-year-olds and free to under 10.
