Some time has passed since the devastating fire of June 26 in the communities of Tala and Koili, but the affected residents of Koili have not yet been compensated. This is pointed out in a letter to the Minister of Agriculture, Costas Kadis, by the Mp of Pafos of DIKO, Chrysanthos Savvidis, calling on him to proceed immediately to the compensation of those affected.
The affected residents complain that the Ministry is throwing the ball of responsibility at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus and the Authority denies any responsibility, points out the MP of DIKO, calling on the competent authorities to leave out of the shift of responsibilities the fire-stricken residents who have suffered huge damages.
"I ask you to proceed immediately to the compensation of the fire victims as you did with the mountainous areas of Larnaca and Limassol", the letter states. "I fully understand your misgivings regarding the causes of this particular fire, but let us actively support our rural areas by compensating them as soon as possible and if the Electricity Authority of Cyprus is ultimately held accountable for causing the fire, you as a Ministry should claim the compensation you will pay from the Authority itself."
