The Ministry of Health announces that today, 5 August 2021, 3 people died of coronavirus, while the new cases are 580. At the same time 293 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 96 are in serious condition (90 yesterday Wednesday).
- Three people died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 433.
- 293 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 96 are in serious condition. 89.77% of nurses have no history of vaccination.
- A total of 36,141 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 580 (positivity rate: 1.60%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 104,469.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Man, aged 71, who ended up on August 4 at Larnaca General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 88, who ended up on 4 August at Limassol General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 85, who ended up today at Famagusta General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 430, of which:
- 283 men (65%), and
- 150 women (35%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 293 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 96 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 96 patients in serious condition, 45 are intubated, five are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 46 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 36,141 diagnoses currently carried out, 8,661 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 27,480 using the antigen rapid test, 580 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 88 cases from 801 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 9 cases of 3,638 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 136 cases out of 3,874 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 10 cases from 197 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 1 case of 151 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
- 173 cases from 11,223 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 163 cases from 16,257 samples examined using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
