575 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH, WEDNESDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, August 4, 2021, one person died due to coronavirus, while 575 are the new positive cases. At the same time, 273 patients are hospitalized, 90 of whom are in serious condition.

specifically:

  • One person died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 430.

  • 273 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 90 of whom are in serious condition. 89.02% of nurses have no history of vaccination.
  • A total of 61,462 molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid test tests have been carried out.

  • 575 (positivity rate: 0.94%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 103,889.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

  • Woman, aged 59, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 430, of which:

  • 282 men (66%), and
  • 148 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 273 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, 90 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 90 patients in serious condition, 41 are intubated, eight are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 41 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 61,462 diagnoses currently carried out, 6,814 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 54,648 using the antigen rapid test, 575 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 44 cases from 424 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 2,555 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 131 cases out of 3,388 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 16 cases from 249 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 198 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 265 cases from 38,728 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 110 cases from 15,920 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.
