402 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - Thursday

Two people died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 454, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

A total of 53,484 molecular (PCR) and antigen rapid test tests have been carried out, of which 402 cases have been identified (positivity rate: 0.75%), bringing the total number of cases to 107,887.

276 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 95 of whom are in serious condition. 84.43% of nurses have no history of vaccination.

11 post-COVID patients, who ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated due to COVID in the Intensive Care Unit of Limassol General Hospital.

Please note that as of today, patients who have been declassified (ceased to be infectious) but are still hospitalized in ICU are also registered by the Ministry of Health.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Man, aged 91,who ended up on August 11 at Limassol General Hospital.
  • Male, aged 72, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 454, of which:

  • 296 men (65%), and
  • 158 women (35%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 276 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospital, 95 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 95 patients in serious condition, 51 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 40 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 53,484 diagnoses currently carried out, 6,806 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 46,678 using the antigen rapid test, 402 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 48 cases out of 301 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 11 cases from 3,364 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 58 cases from 2,863 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 257 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 183 cases from 32,493 samples examined using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 94 cases from 14,185 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 21 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
