389 NEW CASES, THREE DEATHS - SUNDAY

 The Ministry of Health announces that today, August 8, 2021, three people died from COVID-19, while 389 are new cases of the disease. At the same time, 286 patients are hospitalized, 96 of whom are in serious condition.

  • Three people died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 441.

  • 286 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 96 are in serious condition. 89.87% of nurses have no history of vaccination.
  • A total of 35,196 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 389 (positivity rate: 1.11%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 105,982.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Man, aged 93, who ended up on August 7 at Limassol General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 71, who ended up today at Nicosia General Hospital
  • Man, aged 83, who ended up today at Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 441, of which:

  • 288 men (65%), and
  • 153 women (35%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.1 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 286 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 96 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 96 patients in serious condition, 54 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 39 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 35,196 diagnoses currently carried out, 7,069 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 28,127 using the antigen rapid test, 389 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 4 cases from 44 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases of 4,653 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 77 cases from 2,059 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 113 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 135 cases from 12,741 samples examined using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 156 cases from 15,386 samples tested using the antigen rapid test through the Ministry of Health programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 200 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
