324 NEW CASES, SIX DEATHS - Friday

Another six people have died due to coronavirus while the Ministry of Health has announced another 324 new positive cases of the virus in the last 24 hours.

Specifically:

  • Six people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 496.
  • 159 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 66 are in serious condition. 83.02% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 14 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
  • A total of 34,487 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 324 (positivity rate: 0.94%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 112,856.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The six people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

  • A man, aged 89, who ended up on August 26 at Famagusta General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 87, who ended up today at the Famagusta General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 65, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 46, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 43 years, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 42 years, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 496, of which:

  • 322 men (65%), and
  • 174 women (35%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 77 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 159 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 66 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 66 patients who are in serious condition, 25 are intubated, five are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 36 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 34,487 diagnoses made today, 6,061 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 28,426 by the antigen rapid test method, 324 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 41 cases from 298 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 13 cases from 2,750 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 55 cases from 2,740 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 218 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 150 cases from 14,383 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 51 cases from 14,043 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 43 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 12 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.
