165 NEW CASES [No free tests 15/8 due to holiday] - Sunday

The Ministry of Health announces that today, August 15, 2021:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death, COVID-19, were recorded today, so the total number of deaths remains 456.
  • 240 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 84 are in serious condition. 82.09% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 13 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
  • A total of 14,008 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 165 (positivity rate: 1.18%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 108,872.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 456, of which:

  • 297 men (65%), and
  • 159 women (35%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 77 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 240 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 84 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 84 patients who are in serious condition, 46 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 35 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 14,008 diagnoses made today, 6,164 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 7,844 by the antigen rapid test, 165 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 14 cases from 384 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 4 cases from 4,204 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 37 cases from 1,272 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 194 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 96 cases from 7,670 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 110 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 174 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
