WARNING OF THE NEW MUTATION - 'A NEW WAVE IS COMING TO EUROPE IF WE DON'T DISCIPLINE'

 Filenews 1 July 2021

If Europe is not disciplined, it will be hit by a new wave of coronavirus, warns the Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Europe, Hans Kluge, because of the "Delta" mutation.

At a press conference given by Mr. Kluge, he stressed that it seems that the period of 10 weeks of depression in the Old Continent is now coming to an end.

A new wave of infections is inevitable, as long as citizens and governments are not disciplined in the pandemic mitigation measures imposed, the WHO spokesman stressed.

Already last week there was a 10% increase in cases, he pointed out, attributing the phenomenon to the relaxation of restrictive measures.

The new mutation is galloping

The rapid spread of the "Delta" mutation worldwide marks the beginning of a new pandemic phase, full of painful proportions to the recent past.

Europe is already at the mercy of the mutant strain, with a significant surge in cases in many states, such as Russia, Britain and Portugal, where it was deemed necessary to re-impose restrictive measures. At the same time, an agonizing effort is being made everywhere to speed up vaccinations.

At the same time, in international "pares", due to the dominance of the "Delta" mutation in their country, the British have changed.

The news about the Delta mutation is not good. It was found that in Israel 50% of adults infected with the mutant strain were fully vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine. That is why the government has had to re-impose the use of masks by everyone indoors and the observance of social distancing rules.

The encouraging thing is that, despite the outbreak of new cases, there has been no such increase in hospital admissions, which is entirely attributed to vaccinations.

The "Delta" mutation, according to the World Health Organization, is "the most contagious strain of the coronavirus we have encountered to date". It has already spread to 85 states and everywhere displaces older strains and is overlord – as is expected to happen by August in Europe.

In order to prevent the worst, the WHO recommended the use of masks by everyone, even those who have completed their vaccination, adherence to social distancing measures and exemplary hand hygiene.

The agency's deputy head, Dr. Mariangela Simaro, stressed that "one cannot feel safe because she has been vaccinated. For everyone, the need for self-protection against the virus remains." He also explained that vaccination cannot stop the transmission of the mutation in the community. For this reason "everyone should wear a mask, avoid crowding, be in well ventilated areas and wash their hands," he concluded.

Another useful element to know is that the symptoms of the "Delta" mutation differ from the classic symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, fever, anosmia) and are more reminiscent of those of a summer cold. Initially a headache occurs and then a fever, ache, runny nose and sore throat.
