PAPHOS-ALEXANDRIA CONNECTED BY AIR FROM THE AUTUMN

Filenews 21 July 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

The aim of the twin cities of Paphos and Alexandria is to start the direct air link between the two twin cities in early autumn, if epidemiological conditions permit. This design has already been launched since last April in contacts between Mayor Paphos Phaedon Phaedon and Governor of Alexandria Mohamed El Sherif, with the involvement of Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdiou and Minister of Transport Giannis Karussou.

Pending the improvement of the pandemic situation, the operators of the two regions are setting up a joint committee of technocrats to immediately promote the necessary procedures so that flights can start as soon as epidemiological data permit, which is linked to state-owned Egypt Air.

In the context of the contacts already made between Paphos and Alexandria, issues related to education, cruise tourism, as well as further steps in relations between the two twin cities through cultural exchanges and other joint activities were also discussed.

The Mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phaedon, said that the city attaches particular importance to the establishment of this cooperation, since Alexandria is a city of 5 million inhabitants, with which Paphos is associated with historical ties that are lost in the depths of the centuries.

"Our first concern," he continued, "is the connection of Paphos with Alexandria to help the two cities which are predominantly touristic. In addition, in the field of education, the two cities can support and bring together students and young people not only from Cyprus and Egypt Alexandria but also from the surrounding region, such as Jordan, Lebanon and Greece."
