Human remains found in burning car
Police investigating the discovery of human remains inside a burning car in Anarita village on Thursday, said some evidence points to a criminal act.
All possibilities are under investigation, including murder or suicide, Paphos police spokesman Michalis Ioannou, who was at the area, told the Cyprus Mail.
“Some evidence points to a criminal act,” Ioannou said but added that the identification of the body is expected so the investigations proceed within the social circle of the deceased.
State pathologists and criminal investigators were at the scene, to conduct examinations and DNA analysis and identify the remains.
The remains were found after eyewitnesses informed the authorities about a forest fire that broke out in the village around 7am.
Fire fighters and police arrived at the scene to put out the blaze.
During investigations, officers discovered human remains in a car that was destroyed by the fire in Dasoudi area, near the army camp.
The scene was cordoned off by officers who are combing the scene for evidence.
Investigations are still in their initial stages, a police spokesman told the media several hours after the discovery.
