The Republic of Cyprus will proceed with the payment of a respectable financial sum to the families of the four Egyptians who died in the weekend's devastating fires in mountainous Larnaca.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Christodoulides, yesterday afternoon had telephone contact with his counterpart Sameh Shoukry of Egypt, in which he expressed his deep sorrow and conveyed the condolences of both himself and the Cypriot people for the unjust loss of the four workers from Egypt.

Nikos Christodoulides conveyed to his Egyptian counterpart the government's intention to proceed with financial support measures for the families of the victims. At the same time, he asked the Egyptian Ambassador to Cyprus for more information on the family and financial situation of each victim, so that the Republic of Cyprus could proceed with further measures, such as granting scholarships for their children's free studies in Cyprus or meeting any other needs they have.

As we are informed, Nikos Christodoulides, in consultation with President Anastasiades, will also submit a proposal to the Council of Ministers on Wednesday for approval.

At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is taking the necessary steps to transport the bodies of the four Egyptians to their country as soon as possible.
