CORONAVIRUS - MORE THAN 200 JABBED AT WALK-IN CENTRES IN 90 MINUTES

Cyprus Mail 16 July 2021 - by Gina Agapiou

More than 200 people got vaccinated against Covid-19 at the five walk-in vaccination centres nationwide in the first hour and a half on Friday, a health ministry official said.

The majority of vaccinations were carried out in Larnaca where 58 people received a jab, followed by 46 in Nicosia, 40 in Limassol, 30 in Famagusta, while Paphos, where the population is the most vaccinated, administered 27 doses at the walk-in centre.

If the interest continues and there is increased demand, the ministry will increase the number of walk-ins, currently at one per district, acting director of hospital services Evagoras Tambouris told CyBC.

On Thursday, the first day of operation of the walk-in centres, a total of 552 vaccinations were carried out, exceeding the expectations of the health ministry which had initially only distributed 500 doses to the centres.

The walk-in centres are open from 8am to 1pm, Monday to Friday and are currently offering only Pfizer vaccines. They are operating at the Latsia health centre in Nicosia, Linopetra health centre in Limassol, the vaccination centre at Larnaca port and at Paphos general hospital and Famagusta general hospital.

Only Gesy beneficiaries are able to visit them at the moment, with the ministry having said this may be extended to non-Gesy beneficiaries in the future.
