The U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in a revised directive issued Monday recommended against travel to Spain, Portugal, Cuba, Cyprus and Kyrgyzstan because of the increasing number of Cases of Covid-19 in those countries.
The CDC has tightened their directive to "Level 4: Too High" for these countries, a directive that emphasizes that Americans should avoid travel to countries ranked at this level. Spain reopened its borders to American tourists in June.
At the same time, the US Federal Office, citing concerns about the increase in the number of cases in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, tightened the travel directive by two tiers, ranking Israel at "Level 3: High". In June, the CDC relaxed its Travel Directive on Israel at "Level 1: Low."
The U.S. Centres also raised the alert level for Armenia due to the Covid-19 to "Level 3: High". According to Level 3, the recommendation for unvaccinated travellers is to avoid non-essential travel.
Earlier, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki announced that the US would maintain existing restrictions on international travel, despite demands, particularly from the European Union, for reciprocity. The American official justified this decision of the US Government mainly in the rapid spread of the Delta variant of the new coronavirus.
