One only has to consider that the Salia fire cost €110 million, when the destruction was mainly on forest land, without housing and agricultural crops.
The estimate of the cost of the fire of Salia, which burned a forest area of 18.5 square kilometers, was made by the current director of the Department of Forests Charalambo Alexandros, as he said in response to a question of "F". In the last fire, the 55 square kilometres burned, in addition to forest land, include more than 80 houses and other premises, crops, greenhouses, crafts and general enterprises as well as infrastructure of public utilities.
Only the damage caused to houses and other premises in the last fire is estimated at around €7m. of which approximately €1 million was made to the European Investment Bank (EIB). for the houses of the communities of the Limassol province and €6m for the houses and premises of the communities of the province of Larnaca.
According to the Prefect of Larnaca, Odysseus Hatzistefanou, 9 permanent residences and 9 cottages have been destroyed or damaged in Melini, in Agios Vavatsinias 2 cottages, in Odos a permanent residence and in Ora 12 permanent residences and 25 cottages. Six professional premises were burned in Ora, 4 in Odos and one in Agios Vatatsinias. Irrigation systems, greenhouses, water tyres, agricultural machinery cages, farms, agricultural needs, etc, which will be recorded by the Department of Agriculture, were not counted in the damage.
According to the Prefect of Limassol, Mario Alexandros, 10 houses were damaged in Arakapas, one of which was a permanent residence and another 9 cottages.
In Epatagonia, 11 houses were damaged, of which 4 were permanent residences and the remaining 7 were holiday homes. Two professional small premises (coffee shop and grocery store) were also damaged. According to the Prefect of Limassol, the damage to Eptagonia is expected to increase as additional requests emerged yesterday.
