A RECORD 993 NEW CASES, THURSDAY

A record number of new cases of COVID-19 disease were recorded today in Cyprus, with 993 new people tested positive for the virus from 49,032 detection tests, bringing the total number to 81,581.

The positivity rate remains at 2.03%, while a positive figure is that no deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 were recorded today, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 380.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 380, of which:

  • 254 men (67%), and
  • 126 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 107 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 28 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 28 patients in serious condition, 10 are intubated, one is hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 17 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 49,032 diagnoses currently carried out, 7,924 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 41,108 using the antigen rapid test, 993 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 71 cases from 699 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 3,305 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 128 cases out of 3,457 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 377 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 34 cases from 843 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 739 cases from 40,265 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 86 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
