769 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS, WEDNESDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 28 July 2021, two people died of coronavirus, while the new cases are 769. At the same time, 286 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized.

specifically:

  • Two people died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 412.

  • 286 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 83 of whom are in serious condition. 88.8% of nurses have no history of vaccination.
  • A total of 70,678 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 769 (positivity rate: 1.09%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 100,129.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 69, who ended up on 23 July in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 79, who ended up today at Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 412, of which:

  • 270 men (66%), and
  • 142 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 286 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 83 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 83 patients in serious condition, 40 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 41 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 70,678 diagnoses currently carried out, 6,616 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 64,062 using the antigen rapid test, 769 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 38 cases out of 397 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 15 cases from 2,585 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 156 cases out of 3,157 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 26 cases from 355 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 74 cases from 2,158 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 460 cases from 61,904 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 122 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
