429 NEW CASES, WEDNESDAY

429 new cases of COVID-19 disease and no deaths announced today by the Ministry of Health, demonstrating a new increase in cases.

The total number of deaths remains 378. 54 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 20 are in serious condition.

A total of 36,239 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

429 (positivity rate: 1.18%) new cases of COVID-19 disease have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 75,860.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. As a result, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 378, of which 254 are men (67%), and 124 women (33%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 54 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospital, 20 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 20 patients in serious condition, six are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 11 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 36,239 diagnoses currently carried out, 5,219 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 31,020 using the antigen rapid test, 429 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 61 cases from 568 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 2,439 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 35 cases from 1,719 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 9 cases from 213 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 11 cases from 460 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 306 cases from 30,560 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 280 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
