301 REPORTS OF SIDE EFFECTS FROM VACCINES - 84 SERIOUS

 Filenews 23 July 2021

On 301, reports of possible adverse reactions arrived at the Pharmaceutical Services for COVID-19 vaccines in Cyprus. Pharmaceutical Services has set up a link on the official website, which provides data on the number of people who received the crown vaccine, and reports on vaccines and side effects are listed.

Until 12 July 2021, the Pharmaceutical Services of the Ministry of Health received and evaluated a total of 301 reports of adverse reactions likely to be related to vaccination for the prevention of COVID-19 disease. 217 (72%) were classified as mild/moderate and 84 (28%) as serious.

As shown in the table most side effects were recorded in people who received the Pfizer vaccine, followed by AstraZeneca, followed by Moderna and finally Johnson.

The report of possible side effects to the Pharmaceutical Services for COVID-19 vaccines is done through the Yellow Card system.

A report of possible side effects through the Yellow Card system does not necessarily mean that the side effect was caused by the vaccine, but that the person reporting it suspects it may be due to the vaccine. Any underlying diseases or other undiagnosed non-vaccination-related conditions may affect the reporting.

Please note that the relative number and nature of reports through the yellow card system should not be used to compare the safety profile of the various vaccines as many factors can affect an adverse reaction report.

The Pharmaceutical Services have the responsibility for the continuous monitoring of the safety of medicines and vaccines on the market. All health professionals and the public are encouraged to report any suspicions of possible side effects with COVID-19 vaccines through the Yellow Card system, as all reports are subject to continuous consideration, in cooperation with European authorities, in order to identify potential new risks.
