Filenews 2 July 2021
With the median age of new coronavirus cases recorded in the last 14 days at 23 years, the new national report on coronavirus with the new epidemiological data is published on Friday.
Low vaccination coverage in the under-40s and poor compliance with measures in places where people of these ages socialize, keeps cases at a high rate as opposed to the age groups over 40 where due to vaccination shielding, cases remain below 10% (typically, in people 70-79 years of age with a vaccination rate of 92% , the rate of cases is 1.7% and 80 and above is 0.4%).
The aggravated epidemiological situation at young ages is also reflected in the cumulative impact of 14 days. For people up to 19 years of age, the cumulative incidence is 445.8/100,000 and for those aged 20-59 years is 268.6/100,000. In age groups 60-69, 70-79 and 80+ the cumulative incidence is 75.1, 58.7 and 26.9/100.000 respectively.
In relation to the cumulative impact, the increase in cases brought the classification of Cyprus from ECDC to the red category, and is marginally to be classified as deep red .
A strong increase is recorded in Famagusta (940,7/100,000), while apart from Paphos (112,2/100,000) all other Provinces have a cumulative impact of more than 200.
