1,046 NEW CASES, FOUR DEATHS, THURSDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, 22 July 2021, four people died due to coronavirus, while 1,046 are the new positive cases of the disease. 264 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 68 of whom are in serious condition. One of the notable is the fact that 16 positive cases come from nursing homes in Larnaca and Limassol.

specifically:

  • Four people died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 398.

  • 264 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 68 are in serious condition. 90.2% of nurses have no history of vaccination.

  • A total of 89,188 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 1,046 (positivity rate: 1.17%) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 95,307.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The four people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Woman, aged 74, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 69, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Man, aged 87, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Man, aged 85, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 398, of which:

  • 264 men (66%), and
  • 134 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.2 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 264 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospital, 68 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 68 patients in serious condition, 28 are intubated, one is hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 39 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 89,188 diagnoses currently carried out, 8,298 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 80,890 using the antigen rapid test, 1,046 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 66 cases from 523 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases of 2,996 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 251 cases out of 4,432 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 21 cases from 267 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 63 cases from 2,314 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 636 cases from 78,576 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 80 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
