EAC cables that came into contact and caused sparks from which a fire broke out appear to be responsible for the devastating fire in the Talas-Koili area yesterday. This is the conclusion reached by the competent authorities from the first investigations following last night's extinguishment of the fire front.
This was confirmed by statements by the Assistant Police Director of Paphos, Nikos Tsappis, as well as the spokesman of the Fire Department, Andreas Kettis. To this version they show, they said, and testimonies of local residents who had from the first moment reported to the authorities that shortly before the outbreak of the fire they noticed sparks in electrical voltage cables in the area "Zelemenos" of Kamares.
Research has also not shown outbreaks of fire that refer to malicious human activity as is usually the case in cases of human factors, officials stressed.
However, while investigations are continuing to clarify beyond any doubt how the fire was caused, which has destroyed an area of greenery and crops of more than one and a half square kilometres, aerial firefighting equipment has started again at first light in the area of Kamares and the wider area between Talas and Koili, in order to ensure that no fire outbreak remains active to create conditions of resurgence with the rise of the temperature. today.
At the same time, the Prefect of Paphos, Mary Lambrou, will go to the area this morning, and will see up close the results of yesterday's devastating fire in order to begin the process of repairing the damage and helping those affected.
Speaking to "F", Ms Lambrou stressed that with instructions from the Minister of the Interior, with whom she was in contact yesterday informing him of developments in the area, she will hold a workshop of the Technical Services of her Office at 9.30am in Tala for a detailed record of the damage to buildings and other premises from the fire in Tala and Koili.
"There will also be a general report on the damage to plantations and trees in order to register the information with the Ministry of Agriculture", stressed the Prefect of Paphos
