Two persons aged 23 and 26 were sentenced today by the Paphos Criminal Court to 17 and three years in prison respectively in the case of the homicide of the 20-year-old Syrian on the coast of Chloraka in April 2020 by his fellow citizens.
The two had been referred to the Criminal Court as the main parties to the case, while nine other compatriots were on trial for complicity in the manslaughter before the Paphos District Court.
The 20-year-old Syrian man was charged with honour, according to the defendants in the case. The body was found in a riverbed on the beach of Chloraka after a related information concerning a clash of persons on the coastal road Chlorakas – Kato Paphos. Police investigations revealed that on 10 April 2020, a group of Syrians lured their young compatriot to a coastal area of Chloraka because they felt he had an inappropriate relationship with another compatriot.
Testimony had emerged against the two convicted men in the case.
