PROPOSAL FOR PURCHASE OF ELECTRIC SCOOTERS FOR THE TRAFFIC SERVICE OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF PAPHOS

Filenews 18 June 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

Within the framework of the policy of the Municipality of Paphos to transform it into a "smart city",  aimed at sustainable development and "green" movements, electrification comes into focus. This is pointed out by the municipal councillor of DIKO in the Municipality of Paphos, Marinos Stylianou, saying that this new policy is already shown by the acquisition of the first electric bus of the Municipality of Paphos within the framework of the cross-border program Greece – Cyprus ECOrouts and the green routes it operates.

Environmentally friendly means of transport are now a priority of the EU where such actions are co-financed by European funds to local authorities and other organisations, stresses Mr Stylianou.

"I maintain a strong view that the Traffic Of our Municipality, is the mirror of the Municipality of Paphos and our city, is the first impression it leaves to local and foreign visitors and should emit the right image at all levels, sending the right messages to every citizen and visitor," he says. "Therefore, I recommend that the Municipality proceed to research and purchase electric scooters on the basis of standards and on the basis of the needs of the Traffic Service by leaving now the conventional models. Although the number of two-wheeled vehicles needed in our Traffic Economy is small, our action will nevertheless help to strengthen our efforts to reduce emissions of air pollutants and to create infrastructure for electrification in various parts of our city."

Marinos Stylianou points out, finally, that this action may be the beginning of gradually replacing all conventional vehicles available to the Municipality with electric, environmentally friendly vehicles, contributing to the protection of the environment and the reduction of pollutant emissions.
