With no concrete commitments from the British authorities to upgrade Cyprus to the UK's green category, from the orange in which it is currently located, at least in the next revision of the English list, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, who will also be in Moscow on Saturday, has left London, with the aim of strengthening efforts to restart tourism.
In the British capital, Savvas Perdios had various contacts, explaining the improvement of the epidemiological picture of Cyprus and also made statements to British media, expressing the appreciation that Cyprus deserves to be in the green category of the UK categorization system. "Cyprus absolutely deserves to be on the green list," Mr Perdios told the Daily Telegraph in particular, referring to the forthcoming first review of the UK government's green travel list, which is expected to take place today and take effect from the 7th of the month. "We have made a lot of progress, particularly in the last month," Added Mr Perdios, expressing the hope that Cyprus will be put on the green list either on 7 June or in the next review, on the 28th.
However, various reports in the British media, referring to the revision of the UK list, do not include Cyprus in the countries to be upgraded, but making references to other European destinations, such as Malta, Finland and the Spanish islands. Cyprus is included, with several other countries, such as Greece, Spain, France and Italy, in the UK's orange category, a category that prevents British leisure travel, since on their return to England they will have to be placed under house arrest.
In a statement to the CYPE on his visit to London, the Deputy Tourism Minister said their meetings were in view of Britain's new announcements on the categorisation of countries expected within days.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, from London, left for Athens to participate in the European Commission meeting of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), while on Saturday he was on his way to the Russian capital. "Our visit to Moscow is now aimed at now also allow charter flights, which will bring the increased numbers," he explained.
