INTENSE ACTION BY THE POLICE OVER THE WEEKEND

The presence and action of the members of the Police over the past weekend has been intense, as part of efforts to prevent fatal and serious road traffic collisions.

During the traffic checks, 1,724 complaints were made by drivers, of which 1,190 concerned the offence of exceeding the speed limit.

Nine drivers were also found to be driving under the influence of alcohol, while two others were under the influence of drugs.

Members of the Police seized five cars and 15 large-scale motorcycles, while through the ANPR system (automatic identification of registration plates for wheeled vehicles), a wanted person was identified and arrested.

In addition, members of the Police in 14 cases provided assistance to drivers who encountered mechanical or other problems with their vehicles.

Police checks throughout the road network, highways, long-city and urban roads continue daily.
