Filenews 18 June 2021
The picture is pretty good in all the epidemiological indicators of the country. The positivity rate, it seems, through the results of the antigenic tests of the Ministry of Health's programme, after a large decrease recorded since 3 May, has remained stable on a global basis at 0.1%.
Per Province, the positivity rate remained stable at 0.0% in the Provinces of Larnaca, Famagusta and Paphos and stable at 0.1% in Limassol Province. Nicosia Province recorded a slight increase, from 0.0% to 0.1%.
At the same time the cumulative impact of 14 days is at 92.1/100,000 with a stabilising trend in recent days and having decreased compared to the corresponding previous period of 130/100,000. According to the new criteria and if the weekly positivity rate remains below 1%, Cyprus is close to the limit of 75/100,000 to be included in the ECDC Green Zone. The trend in cumulative impact in all Provinces in isolation is also downward:
Famagusta: from 222.9/100,000 to 139.1/100,000
Larnaca: from 99,3/100,000 to 30,2/100,000
Limassol: from 177,2/100,000 to 166,7/100,000
Nicosia: from 103.9/100.000 to 63.5/100.000
Paphos: from 54.5/100.000 to 53.5/100.000
The breeding number is estimated at 0.82 (0.74 – 0.91).
In terms of diagnoses ,there appears to be a shift in younger ages (23.1% and 21.1% of cases were recorded in age groups 20-29 and 30-39 respectively), where the vaccination coverage rate remains at a lower level. For example, the cumulative incidence of 14 days in the 20-59 age group is 109.5/100.000 compared to 42.3/100.000 in the 60-69 group, 22.6/100,000 at 70-79 and at 80 and above is at 29.9/100,000.
Finally, it should be noted that the Medical Certificates of Causes of Death of 4 patients who ended up with the final cause of death of COVID disease in April and May were declared in the previous days after a very long delay. These are 3 men, aged 68, 84 and 73, and one woman, aged 94, who were being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia Hospital. The four deaths were included in the death report and from today they will also be included in the daily press release.
