453 deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 have been reported between March 2020 and June 16, 2021, according to Data from the Ministry of Health. The highest rate of deaths of people positive for COVID-19, with the underlying cause of death being COVID-19, concerns people with permanent residence in Limassol Province (135.36%). and Famagusta Province (15.4%).
Detailed data of the Ministry of Health for the period March 2020 - June 2021:
• By 16 June 2021, 453 deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 have been reported. 68% are for men (306 deaths) and the remaining 32% for women (147 deaths).
• Of the 453 deaths, 378 (83%), had an underlying cause of COVID-19 disease.
• 67% of the total number of deaths with the underlying cause of COVID-19 is for men (254 deaths) and the remaining 33% for women (124 deaths).
• Male-female ratio is 2:1.
• One in five deaths occurs in the 80-84 age group (89).
• The median age of people who ended up with the underlying cause of COVID-19 has decreased from 82 years in 2020 to 77 years in 2021.
• In December 2020 and January 2021 the highest number of deaths of people positive for COVID-19 has been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, with the figure reaching 38% of the total number of deaths (85 and 86 deaths respectively). This is followed by April 2021 with 15% (66) and May 2021 with 13% (58).
• The highest rate of deaths of people positive for COVID-19, with an underlying cause of death, COVID-19, concerns people with permanent residence in Limassol Province (135.36%).
• Limassol has the highest mortality rate per 100000 population (54.4 deaths per 100000 population). This is followed by Larnaca with 44.3 deaths per 100000 population and Nicosia with 37.8 deaths per 100000 population and with a smaller percentage Famagusta province with 30.7 deaths per 100000 population and finally Paphos Province with 28.3 deaths per 100000 population.
