Passengers in the vehicle three other minors aged 14 and 16
Serious traffic offences are alleged to have been committed by a minor, 15 years old, identified by members
of the Police, driving a car on the Larnaca – Famagusta motorway. Three other minors, aged 14 and 16,
were in the vehicle.
The car driven by the 15-year-old was spotted shortly after midnight by members of Traffic Headquarters
being carelessly driven on the motorway, with the driver repeatedly changing lanes. Police members called
on the driver to stop for a check, but he developed speed to escape control and headed to Ayia Napa, with
the traffic patrol following for his arrest.
At the same time members of the Police rushed to the roundabout at the entrance of Ayia Napa to stop
the vehicle, whose driver, arriving at the scene, drove the vehicle against the path current of the
roundabout and exiting the roundabout, moved to Rethymno Street, also driving on the opposite course.
On Rethymno Street, the 15-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and after the vehicle first crashed into
the central islet and then into a car moving on the road, it came to a stop at the scene.
When the vehicle was stopped, police officers found that three minors, two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old
were on board, while the driver, who tried to flee on foot, was aged 15.
The four youths were taken to the local Ayia Napa Police Station where their guardians were called
and taken for examination purposes.
The case of traffic violations is being investigated by the Ayia Napa Police Station.
