77 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - WEDNESDAY

Two other patients with coronavirus ended up bringing the total number of deaths to 367. At the same time, 43 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 16 of whom are in serious condition.

A total of 39,124 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

At 77 (positivity rate: 0.20%), new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 72,996.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Male, aged 78, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 69, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 367, of which:

  • 244 men (66%), and
  • 123 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.4 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 43 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE O.C.P. hospitals, 16 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 16 patients in serious condition, eight are intubated, two are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and six are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 39,124 diagnoses currently carried out, 4,956 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 34,168 using the antigen rapid test, 77 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 29 cases from 285 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 6 cases from 2,409 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 10 cases from 1,951 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 1 case of 136 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 175 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 1 case of 424 samples examined using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 29 cases from 33,744 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:
