YOUTH VACCINATIONS - MINISTRY RESPONSES FOR COFFEE, DRINK, SPORT

 Filenews 13 May 2021

Cyprus is 4th among the countries of the European Union in relation to COVID-19 vaccinations, with the total number of vaccinations having exceeded 400,000. 41.3% already received the 1st dose of the vaccine (305,274 people) by 12 May, while 12.8% completed their vaccination plan (94,730 people).

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, at the heart of the vaccination plan are young people aged 20-29 years, who show a strong interest in getting vaccinated, which shows that they understand and understand that only through vaccination will we be able to get our lives back and return to normality as soon as possible.

Given this great desire and willingness of young people, the following answers are given to frequent questions of concern to young people in relation to vaccinations.

If I get the vaccine, will I be able to do solarium?

There are no specific recommendations.

If I get the vaccine, can I go for a drink? If not, for how many days?

No studies have been conducted at present on whether alcohol affects or causes any side effects after COVID vaccination. There is no evidence to suggest that alcohol consumption within the recommended weekly limits will have any effect on the effectiveness of the vaccine.

If I get the vaccine, will I be able to go for coffee and consume caffeine? If not, for how many days?

There is no contraindication to caffeine consumption after vaccination. Therefore you can go for coffee whenever you want even immediately after vaccination if you feel good.

If I do the vaccine, will I be able to exercise or exercise vigorously, such as crossfit? If not, how many days will I not be able to?

Depending on how one feels, one can normally continue normal activities. In general, it is recommended to avoid vigorous physical exercise in the first few days after vaccination.

After my vaccination, should I stay at home for a few days? If so, how many and why?

No restriction is recommended at home after vaccination, except for rest or other reasons, such as the onset of a side effect such as fatigue, headache, etc.

Can someone return to normal activity after vaccination?

Depending on how one feels, one can continue his normal activities, while applying the current prophylaxis measures against coronavirus and the health protocols applied to each premises. If someone is feeling unwell or tired, it is recommended to rest and avoid using machinery or driving.

Do you need to abstain from certain foods after the vaccine?

There are no recommendations to avoid specific foods after the vaccine.

I have a headache, but not because of the vaccine, can I drink a painkiller after vaccination?

It is not recommended to differentiate the usual way of treating the headache due to vaccination. There are no reports of vaccine interactions with common painkillers, such as paracetamol, and their use is not contraindicated.

If I arrange a vaccination appointment and I get something unexpected (e.g. an accident) and I can't go to the appointment, what happens? Am I losing my turn or can I re-arrange the appointment?

In order to reschedule the appointment, it is necessary to inform the Ministry of Health immediately. The citizen can either call the Call Center 1474, where he will be asked to give the details of the appointment and the reason for requesting the cancellation of his appointment, as well as possible rescheduling dates, or send an e-mail to the e-mail address director@mphs.moh.gov.cy, stating the following information:

Name

No. ID Card

Date of birth

Date and time of appointment

If the reprogramming concerns the 1st or 2nd dose

Vaccination Center

Type of vaccine

No. Contact Phone

Reason for requesting a change of appointment (e.g. case of coronavirus, close contact of case, etc.)

When is reprogramming desirable?

Once the above information has been received by the Ministry of Health and verified, the rescheduling of the appointment will be promoted and the citizen will be informed. The citizen does not need to take any further action through the Vaccination Portal.

Are SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus vaccines safe or have side effects? If so, what are they?

SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus vaccines are safe and, based on the latest safety data, the benefits outweigh the risks. Before each approval, vaccines shall undergo rigorous testing and clinical trials to ensure that they meet internationally agreed safety and efficacy reporting standards. Competent regulatory authorities shall continuously monitor the use of COVID-19 vaccines to ensure that they remain safe.

Like all vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The most common side effects reported for COVID-19 vaccines are mild to moderate and of short duration. The most common include redness and pain at the injection site, fever, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chills, nausea, diarrhea and swelling. In some cases they may be more severe or last longer. The chances of any of the above side effects after vaccination vary depending on the specific COVID-19 vaccine. More information can be found in the User's Guide Sheet, which is available for each vaccine on the website of the European Medicines Agency.

After vaccination should I apply prophylaxis measures against coronavirus? If so, why and for how long?

Vaccines are one of the tools to tackle the pandemic. However, as the pandemic continues, we must take all necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus and prevent more deaths. We must continue to observe social distancing measures, stay at home if necessary and follow all prevention measures that have proven to be effective and keep us safe (use of masks, regular and meticulous hand hygiene, cleanliness of the place where we live or work). At the same time, we must support and encourage vaccination in order to increase population coverage. The sooner the majority of the population is vaccinated, the sooner immunity will occur in the community and we will thus be able to gradually return to our normal way of life.

Those who have experienced allergies in the past, can be vaccinated?

Covid-19 vaccines should not be used in people with hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients included in the vaccine.

People who have experienced a severe allergic reaction or respiratory problems after any other vaccine or medicine, or have been given a COVID-19 vaccine in the past, should contact their Personal Physician prior to the decision to administer the vaccine.

It is noted that the answers to the above questions are based on the data available so far and on the current recommendations of European and global public health organisations and which are constantly updated.
