VACCINATION RATES - CYPRUS IN THE EU, THEN CYPRUS PER REGION/AGE

 Filenews 23 May 2021

50% is close to the percentage of the population that can be vaccinated against COVID-19 and has received at least the 1st dose of the vaccine. Vaccination coverage has been rapidly evolving in recent weeks, with 359,952 people (48.6%) have received the 1st dose of the vaccine by yesterday and 155,192 people (21%) have completed his vaccination regimen. According to OurWorldInData, Cyprus is in 3rd place among EU states in terms of vaccine doses, with the vaccination plan at a fairly advanced stage compared to other Eu states.

The aim of the National Vaccination Plan is to achieve a high iness rate in the population of Cyprus, so that the country remains on track for improvement and to ensure protection of the health of citizens. To achieve this goal, the appointment arrangement process for all persons aged 18 and over has already been completed and the possibility of scheduling appointments for all ages is currently gradually being re-arranged.

The vaccination coverage rate per age group is gradually increasing ,reducing cases by age group and protecting citizens from serious disease ,which has led to a decrease in admissions of COVID-19 patients to hospitals .

More specifically, in the 20-29 age group vaccination coverage with at least the 1st dose was increased to 15.3%,in the 30-39 age group to 35.2%, in the 40-49 age group to 52%, in the age group 50-59 to 54.8%,in the 60-69 age group at 68.5%,in the 70-79 age group at 81.9% and in the over-80 age group at 85.4%.

As far as vaccination coverage (at least with the 1st dose) per Province is concerned, Paphos Province still has 50.7%.  This is followed by the Provinces of Larnaca and Nicosia with 47.2% and 47% respectively, while in the Provinces of Limassol and Famagusta 46.1% and 43.8%respectively have been vaccinated with at least the 1st dose of the vaccine.

The belief that vaccination against COVID-19 is a very important scientific weapon to prevent new mutations and to prevent the spread of the virus is pervasive among citizens, who respond positively to the call for vaccination. It is now understood that through the development of the vaccination programme, we will gradually be able to return to a more functional everyday life, removing restrictions and measures.
