An end to the curfew from 10 June was decided by the Council of Ministers at its meeting today.

  1. From May 29,the travel ban [ie curfew] runs from 1 am. to 5 am.

From June 10, the travel ban [ie curfew] is terminated.

From 1 June, the following shall be permitted, inter alia:

  3. The reopening of the interiors of catering operations, on the basis of the health protocol.

From 10 June, including:

  1. Recreational nightclubs are reopening on the basis of health protocol.
  2. The limit of 50% physical presence in private enterprises and departments/organisations in the public and wider public sectors is lifted.

Details of the decisions concerning the operation of the sport will be announced by the Cyprus Sports Organisation.

All Cabinet decisions will be settled by Decree and will be valid until 31 June. More explanations will be issued later in the day.

The above decisions, as the Minister said, which are still a major step towards normality, are the result of the cooperation shown by the vast majority of citizens. As announced in the previous period and given that the timing is ideal according to epidemiological data, the Government is proceeding on the basis of its plan to restart the economy and social activities. Faithful adherence to protection measures, discipline in health protocols and the effort made by society as a whole have allowed us to take these relaxes in more consistent steps.

At the same time, he stressed that the strong response to the call for vaccination and the increase in vaccination shielding of the population contributed in this direction. With 51% of our fellow citizens vaccinated with the 1st dose of the vaccine and 25% of the population having completed their vaccination regimen, our country is at the fore among the states of the European Union and even closer to achieving the target for vaccination coverage of at least 65% of the population with the 1st dose by the end of June.

It is important not to forget, Mr Ioannou noted, that despite the substantial steps we are taking, the virus is still among us. It is essential at this time, when society and the economy are unlocking, to continue with caution and consistency in the observance of measures. From now on, the common goal of all of us should be to maintain the positive epidemiological picture and further improve it. Together we will be able to emerge victorious from this difficult ordeal that has plagued us for more than 15 months.
