SPORTS TRAINING FACILITIES - Amendments wef 17 May

 Filenews 14 May 2021

Following today's decisions of the Council of Ministers, the Cyprus Sports Organisation, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, announces the following changes regarding the measures relating to sport, which will apply from 17 May 2021.

With regard to sports/training carried out in closed sports facilities (gyms, dance, gymnastics, martial arts and other sports schools) it is clarified that this is permitted with the simultaneous presence of a number of people based on square meters and in particular, one person per 15 square meters.

Regarding the sport/training of team sports in closed sports facilities (with the addition of training sessions and class A, B and C matches regulated by the relevant provision of the decree), it is allowed on the basis of the squares – 1 person per 15 square – but not more than 20 persons physical presence in a training room. In addition, it is stressed that only individual training is allowed, subject to the existence of a safe pass.

In outdoor sports facilities futsal, team training / play is allowed, provided that the athletes do not exceed 10 people per installation and subject to the existence of a safe pass. Please note that the training/sport will take place without the use of locker rooms and without the provision of gloves and badges and on the basis of a protocol that has been approved by the Ministry of Health.

In outdoor sports facilities (Futsal/Basketball, etc.), where training sessions of team sports academies are held, individual training of athletes without contact is allowed, as long as they do not exceed 11 persons including the coach (10 +1).

In large football fields, individual training of athletes not exceeding six (6) persons per team, including the coach, is permitted, provided that the total number of persons per sports facility does not exceed twenty-four (24) persons.

For outdoor and closed swimming pools 50m long or 25m long and since there are racing routes, the simultaneous presence of four (4) people per route and up to two (2)coaches per swimming pool is permitted. In case there are no racing routes in the swimming pool, but also in smaller tanks, individual training is allowed based on squares and specifically 20 square meters per person. [please note this relates to sports training in swimming pools - communal/complex/public pools remain out  of use for the time being].

In addition, water polo training is allowed with a maximum number of people per swimming pool of 20 people provided there is a safe pass (both in open and closed swimming pools).

It is stressed that, both indoor and outdoor training, it is necessary for coaches/trainers to use a protective mask. It is understood that the non-use of a mask by the coaches/trainers is permitted if they train/exercise with the athletes.

In addition, it is specified that, for persons 12 years of age or older who, whether they are active in indoor sports facilities, participating in contact sports or taking part in sporting events (matches), the possession of a Safe pass (either a negative laboratory test or a rapid antigen detection test for COVID-19 disease with sampling carried out within 72 hours) is required; either a vaccination certificate for COVID-19 disease at least at one dose and provided that a period of three weeks has passed after the date of vaccination, or evidence of release in the case of persons ill with COVID-19 and provided that no period of six months has passed since the date of sampling of their initial positive diagnosis).

For other cases of sport (participation in individual sports in open sports facilities), persons 12 years of age or older shall be required to have either a negative laboratory test or a rapid antigen detection test for COVID-19 disease on a weekly basis; either a vaccination certificate for COVID-19 disease at least at one dose and provided that a period of three weeks has passed after the date of vaccination, or evidence of release in cases of persons sick with COVID-19 and provided that no period of six months has passed since the date of sampling of their initial positive diagnosis.
