Empty for months, the hotels are now opening their doors. The first customers of the few hotel units in Paphos that have already opened their doors are Israeli and Russian visitors who arrive by charter flights at the city's airport during this time.
This fact was confirmed by the president of PASYXE Paphos, Thanos Michaelides, speaking yesterday of an optimistic message to the tourist industry of Paphos, despite the still small number of visitors. "It is a fact that timidly began in the last week or so a little tourist traffic in Paphos," he said, "from the Israeli and Russian market. However, this fact is still important, regardless of its quantitative dimension, because it marks a practical step towards our normality. The Israelis and Russians who are currently in our city are staying in the few hotel units that had opened their doors already before the decision on the new lockdown. In other words, this first tourist stream did not contribute to the opening of other units, but it is comforting that things have started to move.'
Thanos Michaelides said that unlike the above mentioned markets, things with the British market are not yet clear and the players of the tourism industry in the British market are on standby for any developments. "In the coming days, after the Easter holidays are completed, I think we will have a more global picture of where things are moving in this area as well," he concluded.
