With the first "decibel meter", the specialized noise measurement machine, the Municipality of Paphos was equipped to crack down on noise pollution in the city. This machine will be used to control the intensity of music emitted by leisure centres, but also in other cases of noise pollution, in an effort for a summer season without extremes that create bad images for Paphos as a tourist destination.
Announcing the acquisition of the first "decibel meter", the Mayor of Paphos, Phaedon Phaedon, spoke of actions of the local authority that constantly aim at the well-being and respect of visitors and residents of the city. It announced that the municipal authority would soon procure other "decibel meters" in order to ensure that the controls were as dense and extensive as possible.
This machine is contained in a suitcase which is easily transportable and easy to use, which is why they estimate that the results will soon be directly in the direction of improving the quality of life in crowded and commercial areas of Paphos.
