EU GREEN PASS IN THREE FORMS FROM 1 JULY

 Filenews 21 May 2021

There will be three types of digital certificate, EU Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders said today at a press conference he gave, specifying that every citizen will be able to have a vaccination certificate or certificate for a negative test or certificate indicating that he has recovered from the coronavirus.

He noted that these certificates would be free for all EU citizens and that it would be possible for someone to bring them in paper or digital form.

As regards the cost of the required tests, the Commission will mobilise an additional €100 million to support Member States in offering affordable tests, Mr Raiders said.

What is important at this stage is that Member States continue to cooperate with the Commission on supply issues, stressed the European Commissioner and added that "it is also important to remember that the regulation underlines that Member States must refrain from imposing additional travel restrictions on certificate holders, unless they are necessary and proportionate to safeguard public health".

Didier Reynders also said that so far 17 member states and Iceland have participated in the simulation test.

Greece had successfully completed this test last Tuesday, as a Commission representative at the RES-IPA had said.

Finally, Mr Reynders stressed that the regulation would enter into force on 1 July, giving a six-week window to states that have not been able to prepare for this certificate by then, but will be able to issue something equivalent to the same data and format.
