ELECTRICITY CUTS - Update from the Electricity Board 5/5/21

''We are aware of the problem and we would like to apologize for any inconvenience.

These faults, that usually last from a few minutes to less than an hour, are 'underfrequency' faults. These happen when one or more generators in our Power Stations in Vasiliko or Dekeleia malfunction and are immediately disconnected from the network. To balance the reduced load, the system automatically turns off the power in some areas of Cyprus on different levels of fault. Tala and some other areas are unfortunately on the 1st level of response, which means they are almost always the first to be disconnected from the power network.

For the last few months we have had an increased number of such faults due to the work performed in Vasiliko Power Station for adapting our systems to be able to work/operate with natural gas. Unfortunately this work is going to last at least a few months more. There is nothing we can do except and ask that residents be patient until the work is complete.''
