CYPRUS HAS BROKEN THE HALF MILLION VACCINATION BARRIER - & PORTAL OPENING 24-29 MAY

 Filenews 22 May 2021

Broke the half-million vaccination barrier – Vaccination Portal opening program for May 24-29.

More than half a million vaccinations were carried out in Cyprus between 27 December 2020 and 21 May 2021. In particular, having intensified the pace of implementation of the National Vaccination Plan against COVID-19, 504,008 vaccinations were carried out until yesterday, i.e. 57.3 doses per 100 inhabitants were administered. 356,376 people received the 1st dose of the vaccine (48.2% of people who can be vaccinated) and 147,632 people have completed their vaccination regimen (20% of people who can be vaccinated). According to ECDC, the vaccination rate in Cyprus is well above the European Union average, where 39.6% of the population was vaccinated with the 1st dose, while 16.6% completed vaccination and our country ranks 4th among EU Member States.

Recognising that vaccination is the strongest scientific weapon available to us to tackle the pandemic, a positive response from citizens is the key to achieving the target of vaccinating 65% of the population by the end of June.

In view of the greatest possible vaccination coverage of the population leading to immunity, reduction of cases and especially hospitalizations and deaths, priority for arranging vaccination appointments through the Vaccination Portal in the period 24-29 May will be given to the following age groups:

Ages - Priority Date at vaccination portal

43-45 - Monday, May 24, 7:30 a.m. to Tuesday, May 25, 5:30 p.m.

40-42 - Wednesday, May 26, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

37-39 - Friday, May 28, 7:30 a.m. to Saturday, May 29, 5:30 p.m.

The Vaccination Portal will be open on the above dates and times only for the ages mentioned in each case and not for older people. Vaccinations will be carried out with the available licensed vaccines in the Vaccination Centres operating in all Provinces. Planning for the follow-up will be announced in the coming days.

It is recalled that in parallel with vaccinations in the Vaccination Centres, the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine continues in the dispensaries of Personal Physicians who have expressed an interest, for beneficiaries aged 20 years and over.
