of Cyprus – France Air Defence Exercise “TALOS 2021” |

The Air Defence exercise “TALOS
2021” was successfully completed with the participation of forces of the
National Guard and the French Armed Forces. The exercise took place on the occasion of the presence of the aircraft carrier «Charles de Gaulle» in the wider region of the Eastern Mediterranean. The scenario of the exercise
concerned the entry of two formations of fighter aircrafts Rafaleat low altitude,
with the aim of attacking military installations of the National Guard. The
main purpose of the exercise was to evaluate the response of the air defence
system of the Republic of Cyprus and to train the personnel of the National
Guard in realistic conditions. Through this joint activity,
the personnel of the National Guard and the French Forces are co-trained,
while the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of aviation is
considered particularly important. The Air Defence exercise
“TALOS” is part of the implementation of the Bilateral Defence Cooperation
Program, between Cyprus and France. It took place within the Nicosia FIR and
covered a large area of the Republic of Cyprus territory. The exercise was attended by
the Minister of Defence, Mr Charalambos Petrides, accompanied by the
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Andreas Loukas, and the Deputy Chief
