Very effective in the Indian mutation, the AstraZeneca vaccine is proven, according to a new study.
The study, conducted in India, showed that of 3,235 vaccinated healthcare workers with the AstraZeneca formulation, only 85 reported symptoms of Covid and two of them needed hospital treatment.
The study at the Indraprastha Apollo hospital in Delhi did not record deaths or admissions to intensive care units in those who had been vaccinated, India Today reported.
Dr Anupam Sibal, medical director of the hospital group, said: "Our study showed that 97.38% of those vaccinated were protected from infection and the rate of hospitalisation was only 0.06%. The results of the study show that infections occur with symptoms in only a small percentage and these are mainly small infections that do not lead to serious illness. There have been no admissions to ICU or deaths'.
It is worth noting that the Indian mutation has begun to strengthen in the UK, where more than 1,300 cases have been recorded.
