The Ministry of Health announces that today, 6 May 2021 a person has died of coronavirus, while 460 are positive cases.
specifically:
- One person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 328.
- 247 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 63 of whom are in serious condition. The median age of the hospitalized is 58.6 years.
- A total of 42,232 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 460 (positivity rate: 1.09%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 68,442.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:
- Male, aged 70 years, with no history of vaccination, who ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 328, of which:
- 215 men (66%), and
- 113 women (34%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 247 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 63 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 63 patients in serious condition, 30 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 30 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 42,232 diagnoses currently carried out, 6,432 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 35,800 using the antigen rapid test, 460 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 71 cases from 749 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 7 cases from 2,426 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 128 cases from 2,897 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 6 cases from 261 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 26 cases from 1,065 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 222 cases from 34,735 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 99 samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
