157 NEW CASES, SATURDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, May 15, 2021, the new cases of coronavirus are 157.

specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 were recorded today, so the total number of deaths remains 346.
  • 156 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 51 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 83,338 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 157 (positivity rate: 0.19%) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 70,899.

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded today. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 remains 346, of which:

  • 229 men (66%), and
  • 117 women (34%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77.5 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 156 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 51 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 51 patients in serious condition, 28 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 20 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 83,338 diagnoses currently carried out, 4,966 were made using the molecular method (PCR) and 78,372 using the antigen rapid test, 157 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 3 cases from 2,171 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 45 cases from 2,196 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 6 cases from 154 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 146 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and Special Teams Control through Public Health Clinics.
  • 7 cases from 999 samples tested using the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 95 cases from 77,373 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 299 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
