VACCINATION PORTAL OVERLOADED - OPENS AGAIN 2.30pm TODAY FOR 61-63

 Filenews 15 April 2021

Trouble arose again on Thursday morning with the Vaccination Portal against COVID-19, which was scheduled to open at 7.30am for ages 61 to 63, with 9,707 appointments available.

In a statement, the Ministry of Innovation says the Covid19 Vaccination Portal has been temporarily shut down due to an overload of the system that occurs when multiple users simultaneously choose the same appointment at the same vaccination centre for the same beneficiary.

The gate will be reopened today, April 15, at 14:30 until 20:00, for people aged 61-63.

It is recalled that the Vaccination Portal can accommodate up to 35,000 users at the same time. Today, April 15, and while the number of potential beneficiaries stands at around 26,000, a multiple number of logged-in users were recorded at 07:30am, resulting in overload and non-response of the system.

A strong appeal to citizens, as for each beneficiary, is made by only one person to arrange an appointment, in order to avoid the constant overloading of the system and the consequent inconvenience of the citizens.

The Vaccination Portal was in trouble last week when it was shut down on Wednesday, minutes after it opened to arrange appointments.

Last Tuesday the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Kyriakos Kokkinos stated that the Vaccination Portal has been upgraded and has simultaneous access of 30,000 - 35,000 users, while noting that the planning for closing appointments will continue with certain ages.

Mr Kokkinos had made it clear that the issues faced by the Gate were due to the very increased number of simultaneous attempts to close appointments, which resulted in him not being able to respond. He explained that this was because at the same time attempts could be made by 4 or 5 different people to make vaccination appointments for the same person.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of Health, 193,537 vaccinations were carried out by 13 April, 137,004 with the 1st dose and 56,533 with both doses. Also, between December 2020 and June 2021, 1 million people are expected to have been received. doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
