A week of traffic checks and information actions, dedicated to the observance of the speed limit on the road network, is carried out by the Police from tomorrow Monday, 19 April, until Sunday, 25 April, with the aim of preventing serious and fatal injuries in road collisions and more generally the consolidation of road awareness.
The week of actions to meet the speed limit on the road network will be conducted at European level by the European Road Traffic Network ROADPOL and the Police Organisations that are members of it. The focus of the week will be the 24-hour Speed Marathon on Wednesday, April 21, with coordinated traffic control operations to meet the speed limit.
Violation of the speed limit is one of the main factors causing serious and fatal traffic collisions. It is one of the leading causes of deaths and serious injuries in road accidents. This is highlighted by the analysis of the statistics resulting from the examination of traffic collisions and the analysis of the causes of their challenge.
The Cyprus Police places particular emphasis on tackling the phenomenon and through daily traffic controls, but also by constantly informing the public, focuses efforts to address the problem, with the aim of preventing serious and fatal road collisions, embedding road awareness and increasing the sense of safety on the road network.
