TOURIST SUPERVISION BEGINS VIA 'LIKES' ON THE INTERNET

Filenews 17 April 2021 - by Adamos Adamou

Reputation Ltd, based in London, commissioned the Ministry of Tourism to collect data via the internet on the services offered in the tourism sectors, so that it could in turn intervene for corrective actions and... comments to entrepreneurs in the sector.

The testing of Reputation Ltd's digital platform has been under way for some time and, as "F" informs, before the summer the Ministry of Tourism will have at its disposal this tool, which will essentially monitor the satisfaction of visitors on the internet with regard to the services of hotels, leisure centres, archaeological sites, etc. It is noted that Reputize Ltd is a growing software provider and already has hundreds of hotels in the world in its clientele and undertook after a competition of the Ministry of Tourism the design/development of services/tool for the collection of data of online reputation (ORM – Online Reputation Management), for the amount of €360,000. The amount of the aid was approximately EUR 1 million.   The platform and software developed by Reputize will collect data from a large number of websites such as Facebook, Instagram, Booking.com, TripAdvisor and other online media that post reviews and reviews from tourists.

On the subject, the Deputy Minister of Tourism recently said that the digital platform will monitor the tourist reputation of the destination, but also of the service providers themselves. "If a visitor abroad is referring to Cyprus or a service received in Cyprus, we will now be able as Deputy Minister to monitor these comments on a daily basis so that we can work together with service providers in Cyprus to improve the product," Savvas Perdios said, developing the actions of his Deputy Minister for this year as part of the implementation of the National Tourism Strategy.

As we wrote, the platform will collect data and reviews from a number of websites on the levels of services provided among others to hotel companies, leisure centres, museums, sports venues, wineries, beaches, as well as other similar businesses and points of tourist interest. On the basis of the plans communicated, the platform will, among other things, collect data and inform the Ministry of Tourism of the average satisfaction score of visitors for a range of services and of the fluctuations that will be observed in order for the Ministry of Tourism to in turn have an overview of the degree of satisfaction of visitors but also a tool in essence to make corrective actions and recommendations if necessary.

It is recalled that, on the occasion of the operation of the platform, the Ministry of Tourism, in a bill promoted in the House proposed the abolition of the institution of secret visits to tourist accommodations and hotels for evaluation purposes that exists in the Regulation of the Establishment and Operation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodations Law that entered into force in 2019. The abolition of this provision was proposed "because, within the framework of the new National Tourism Strategy, it is institutionalized to provide services/ an online reputation data collection tool that enables the continuous measurement and monitoring of the tourist experience in hotels, a solution that provides the necessary information for immediate corrective action, with the result that the institution of secret visit to hotels that is planned to take place once every three years, is redundant without added value".
